What is Compliance Testing?

Compliance and accessibility are issues for every company today. WebCheck can be used in a number of ways to ensure that your company website complies with both essential and desirable Internet standards, meeting all of the access needs of our diverse society.

These are the kind of questions we ask of any website undergoing a WebCheck:-

  1. Does your site meet current legal guidelines? The Disability Discrimination Act 2004 refers to website usage as much as to access to buildings, for example.
  2. Can users control the text size? Partially sighted users should be able to increase the text size with one click of the mouse.
  3. Are the grammar, spelling and punctuation correct? A basic point, but so many sites miss this.
  4. Is the copy brief and to the point, or does it need professional editing?
  5. Are the background and foreground colours of sufficient contrast? Colour blind visitors should be able to read the copy or change the colours.
  6. Is the site sufficiently inclusive? Older people's needs may be different to the needs of the young, for example.
  7. Is the site simple and consistent in navigation?
  8. Has the site been tested across different browsers? What looks good on the designer's screen may be missing altogether on a different web browser.

Compliance can also ensure that your website takes full commercial advantage of the potential to appeal to all of your target audience. Men and women, for example, react differently to colours, lines, language, tone etc. in websites.
