FOCUS QUALITATIVE

U.K. & INTERNATIONAL

Background

Recently, we have been asked to devise a qualitative service which is priced at a level significantly below that of traditional focus groups. Our solution is called 'Focus', a research technique which continues our tradition of providing high quality research and analysis, but at a fraction of normal costs.

How Focus Differs From Traditional Qualitative Research

As usual, the client company and RPM Research discuss the underlying issues surrounding a project. For a Focus project, there are two important constraints: the core market audience should be readily defined and relatively straightforward to recruit; the research objectives should be highly defined.

The recruitment of respondents is carried out directly by RPM Research, initially by e-mailing a list of potential respondents, all of whom have agreed previously to take part in focus groups (though no-one takes part in a project more than three times a year).

The number of focus groups is limited to three, all of which take place in one evening.

The groups last for a maximum of one hour (rather than the hour and a half of standard groups).

All groups take place at our London (Docklands) offices, where clients are welcome to attend.

We have access to other Focus centres in Paris, Dusseldorf, Madrid and Milan.

There are 5 or 6 respondents per group (rather than the 7 or 8 of standard groups).

Reporting is in the form of a PowerPoint presentation.

Focus projects are significantly cheaper than traditional focus groups.
